Jev pricing guide · updated October 4, 2026
Is Jev free to use?
Yes, to start. Jev AI gives eligible new accounts 20 welcome credits with no card, and one native Jev run costs 1 credit. The same credits work in the playground and on the API. Jev itself is a paid, hosted model, so sustained use is billed by input tokens.
What is free on Jev AI
Everything below is available without paying. Live runs need a signed-in account.
| Free | Details |
|---|---|
| Welcome credits | 20 credits for eligible new accounts. No card is required to sign in. |
| Daily check-in | Extra gift credits each day you check in from the header. They expire a set number of days after each claim and are used before welcome credits. |
| Recorded examples | The tutorial and use-case pages replay saved Jev answers. Viewing them makes no live call and needs no account. |
| API key | Creating, listing and revoking keys is free and does not run the model. |
| Output tokens | Never charged. Only input tokens are metered. |
| Failed runs | If Jev fails, times out or cannot be reached, the reserved credit returns to your balance. |
How far 20 credits go
Each model has its own credit cost per run. Native Jev is the cheapest.
| Model | Credits per run | Runs from 20 credits |
|---|---|---|
| Jev | 1 | 20 |
| Mercury Decide | 1 | 20 |
| Laya English | 2 | 10 |
| Laya Multilingual | 2 | 10 |
| Clef Flash | 3 | 6 |
| GPT-6 Luna | 3 | 6 |
| Jev-Omni | 4 | 5 |
| Clef | 6 | 3 |
A run can ask several questions about one text and still counts once: the playground accepts up to 8 questions per run. Some tools, such as live web context, carry their own charge. Current rates are on the pricing page.
Is the Jev API free?
Free credits also pay for API calls. There is no separate free API tier.
Jev AI keeps two balances. Welcome and check-in gifts enter the Credit account. Purchases add input tokens to the Token account.
- API calls use tokens first. If tokens cannot cover the request, the whole call is paid with the model’s credit charge.
- Playground and web tools use credits first, then input tokens × the model rate.
- A request never charges both accounts, and output tokens are free.
So a new account can create a key and call the API on its welcome credits. Follow how to get a Jev API key, then send a first request from the Jev API page.
When you start paying
Buy only when your free credits no longer cover what you run.
Monthly plans and one-time token packs add input tokens to your Token account. Unused tokens roll over, a renewal can be cancelled at any time, and token packs need no subscription. Each successful call deducts actual input tokens × the selected model’s rate.
For reference, TypeSafe lists Jev at $0.042 per million input tokens on its own service, with free output tokens, as of September 18, 2026. Jev AI plan prices are separate and are shown on the pricing page; a purchase here does not add balance to a TypeSafe account.
Make free credits last
A credit is spent per run, not per question.
- 01
Read a recorded example first
The Jev tutorial replays a saved support-ticket run. Learn the question types there before spending a credit.
- 02
Ask several questions per run
Jev reads the text once and answers every question in parallel. Put routing, urgency and scoring in one request.
- 03
Start with native Jev
It has the lowest credit cost. Switch to another model only when you need what it adds, such as image input.
- 04
Check in daily
The daily check-in in the header adds gift credits while you evaluate.
Free alternatives to hosted Jev
Open weights are free to download. Hardware is not.
Jev’s own weights are not public, but several open-weight decision models answer the same typed questions on a GPU you run yourself. See which Jev alternatives run locally, with licences, hardware needs and JevBench scores.
Free Jev FAQ
Is Jev free?
Jev is a paid, hosted model, but you can try it free on Jev AI. Eligible new accounts receive 20 welcome credits, and a native Jev run in the playground costs 1 credit. Daily check-ins add more credits. After that you buy input tokens.
Is the Jev API free?
There is no permanently free API tier, but welcome and check-in credits work on the API. An API call uses purchased input tokens first; with no tokens, the whole call is paid with the model’s credit charge, which is 1 credit for native Jev.
Do I need a credit card to try Jev?
No. Signing in to Jev AI requires no password and no card. You only enter payment details if you choose to buy a plan or a token pack.
Do free credits expire?
Daily check-in credits expire a set number of days after each claim; the check-in panel shows the date. They are spent before your welcome credits.
What happens when my credits run out?
A request that neither credits nor tokens can cover fails with a 402 response and is not charged. You can check in again the next day or add input tokens on the pricing page.
Is the official TypeSafe Jev API free?
TypeSafe prices Jev per input token and does not charge for output tokens. Its account terms, including any trial allowance, are set by TypeSafe and are separate from Jev AI. Check TypeSafe’s own pricing for current terms.
Is there a free, open-source Jev?
TypeSafe has not released Jev’s weights, so there is no free download of Jev itself. Several open-weight models answer the same typed questions and can be run on your own hardware; you pay for the GPU instead of per token.
Jev AI is independently operated and is not TypeSafe’s official site. Credit and billing rules describe Jev AI as of October 4, 2026 and can change.
